Obituary of Ruben Dario Ruiz

Rubén Darío Ruíz, of West Nyack, NY, passed away peacefully in his sleep on March 24, 2019. He lived to age 85 before he was called to his new home with the Lord. Born to the late Jacob and Daría Ruíz on February 14, 1934 in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Rubén moved to New York in 1950, where he met his wife, the former Carmen Rodríguez. They wedded in July of 1953, and his passing breaks a marital union of 65 years.

Rubén enlisted in the United States Army in May of 1954, serving primarily in Panamá, from which he was honorably discharged at the rank of Private First Class in April of 1956. Following his military service, he worked as foreman for Cerro Wire and Cable Company in Maspeth, NY and as a real estate agent for Regal Homes Realty in Queens, NY. His hobbies included automobile maintenance/repair and sports, particularly watching wrestling, baseball (New York

Yankees) and football (New York Giants); he also played baseball for the Arecibo Lobos in New York and enjoyed billiards.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Rubén Ruíz, Jr. (Carmela) and Elizabeth Heuer (Robert); grandchildren Marissa Livingston (Chad), Adam Ruíz, R. Daniel Heuer (Emily), Jarred Heuer (Courtney), and Adriana Ruíz; siblings Lillian, Hector, Lucy, Annie, Ray, and Haydee; great-grandchildren Kayden, Christian, Rosalie, and Alice; nieces and nephews May, Eddie, Cindy, Evie, Sophia, and Andre; and his God-daughter, Linda. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Tony and Margie, and nephews David and Hector Jr.

Family and friends are invited to call from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Thursday, March 28 at Sorce, Assumma, & Shankey Funeral Home, 34 N. Summit Street, Pearl River. A burial with military honors will take place at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 220 Brick Church Road, Spring Valley, at 11:00 am on Friday, March 29.
