Obituary of Harry R. Toop
Harry Robert Toop, 91, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2019.
Harry was born in Yonkers, New York, a place he spoke about fondly and often, sharing many early memories. He had many passions, including mentoring young people, his focus on education and his beloved writing group, which gave him the opportunity to chronicle and preserve the life stories most meaningful to him. Harry’s annual deer hunting trip with good friends was a favorite, with golf a close second in his later years. Harry was particularly proud of his service as a Navy Corpsman during World War II, and he was honored to take part in the Hudson Valley Honor Flight Mission in the spring of 2018. Above all, he was a wonderful husband, dad and friend. His outgoing personality and joyful nature were contagious wherever he went.
Harry was predeceased by Betty, his loving wife of 67 years. He is survived and will be missed by his four children (Scott, Kathie, Bobbi and Mary), and 12 grandchildren and one great grandson. He was predeceased by one grandson. A memorial service will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 84 Ehrhardt Road, Pearl River, N.Y. on Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 11:00a.m., with a reception to follow in the Parish Hall.
