Obituary of Hattie Lanier

Hattie Lanier was born to the late Elder John and Mary Lanier on September 28, 1947 in Kimball. West Virginia. She departed this life on August 25, 2019 at the Joe Raso Hospice residence. She was 71 years old.

Hattie developed cerebral palsy and scoliosos at a young age. The family relocated to Yonkers, New York in 1958. She lived with her family until the age of 15. Her parents and doctors agreed that a group home facility would better suit her needs since she was non verbal and unable to walk.

Hattie resided at various facilities over the years that suited her needs, Letchworth Village, Black Hawk, Fortune Rd and Mt Ivy where the staff always became her family.

Hattie loved her TV, music and bright lights, she enjoyed rubbing lotion on her hands and  getting her hands on her sisters purses, she would take everything out and throw it on the floor and smile. She also loved makeup and beautiful manicures. Hattie was a very happy woman but if she was angry you would know it!

In addition to her parents she was pre deceased by her brother Milton Lanier.

Hattie leaves to cherish her memory, four sisters; Marion Jackson of Columbus, Ohio, Priscilla McCoy ( Robert) of Nyack, New York, Seevah Johnson of Fort Washinton, Maryland and Connie Moore ( Arthur) of Yonker, New York, one brother; Freddie Lanier ( Dorthea) of Mt. Vernon and one sister in law Susie Lanier, Bronx, New York and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family would like to thank all the staff from the various group homes for the love and care given to Hattie over the years, her special staff, you know who you are, Thank you.

Now she is at peace, May God rest her soul. We will miss her dearly.
