Obituary of John Thomas Olszewski
John Olszewski, 94, of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, passed away on August 27, 2019. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years Elaine Olszewski. Born in 1925 to Alexander and Mary Olszewski he grew up in Bronx, New York. Upon marrying in 1957 he moved shortly after to Pearl River, New York where he was a resident for 52 years. John worked at NBC Studios at 30 Rockefeller Plaza in New York City as a Senior Video Tape Editor for 40 years before retiring in 1985. Throughout his career John received four Emmy Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for Achievement in Video Tape Editing.
Over the years John enjoyed sailing, day trips and vacations with his family, tennis, golf, music and his great love of woodworking. But most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. John was a much-loved patriarch to his entire family, immediate and extended. He is survived by his four children Diane, Janice, Linda and John and his grandchildren Tommy, John, Nicole and Jessica. "Pappy" was an integral part of his family's lives. Always ready with a helping hand, a supportive word , heartfelt sentiments and advice on life situations. "Pappy's" family was of the upmost importance to him and he will always be remembered for his kind soul, generous nature and warm smile.
As a family we would like to extend our sincere gratitude and admiration to all his care providers who were dedicated to him and went above and beyond for "Mr. O."
Visiting hours are Friday, August 30, 2019 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Assumma-Shankey Funeral Home, 34 North Summit Street, Pearl River, New York 10965 (845-735-4849).
