Obituary of Thomas B Aldrich III

 

Thomas Bartlett Aldrich III was born on September 18, 1932 in Englewood,NJ to Helen Clay Aldrich and Thomas Bartlett Aldrich Jr. and passed on January 7, 2020. He was a descendant of the Bartlett family that developed the Bartlett pears, and also a descendant of Josiah Bartlett, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence of the United States.

 In 1962, Tom met and courted the love of his life, Dolores Rullán.They were married on October 27,1962 in the Bronx and started their family. In 1966, they moved their family to Chestnut Ridge. Tom and Dolores were married for 58 years. He is the proud father of three sons, Thomas Eric and wife Lisa, Marco, and Mateo and wife Nira,and grandfather to Nick, Brian, Emily, Trevor, Kristen, and James, all of whom love him beyond words.

Tom served his country in the Navy as a Machinist Mate First Class aboard the Aircraft Carrier the USS Leyte (1951-1955) and in the Reserves (1955-1959), having earned the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal with European Clasp, and Good Conduct Medal.

While serving in the Reserves, he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Industrial Design from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, NY.

Tom worked for Donald Deskey Associates for his entire career of 37 years, eventually becoming a Vice-president.Tom was an award-winning Industrial Designer, responsible for numerous patents.

Tom enjoyed fly-fishing and recreational shooting with his 3 sons, tennis, skiing, sailing and his green lawn, the best in the neighborhood.Tom was a gentle soul; a man of integrity; modest, honest and a truefriend to those who knew him. He will always be remembered and loved by his devoted family.

The service will take place on Saturday, January 11, 2020 from 3:00 – 7:00 pm at Sorce Assumma & Shankey Funeral Home located at 34 N. Summit Street, Pearl River, NY 10965.
