Obituary of Michael Somorin Coker
Michael Somorin Coker was born May 29th, 1953 in Zaria, Nigeria to Aldophus and Mosunmola Coker. He was the sixth of eight children: Olusola (deceased), Funmilayo (UK), Dapo (UK), Tunde (UK), Ronke (Nigeria), Iyabo (Nigeria), Moronfulu (UK), Sowole (US).
He migrated to the United States after completing high school at Saint Gregory's College. He completed his B.S. in Zoology and a minor in Economics at Ohio University, followed by a B.S. in Pharmacy at Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY. He later received his MBA at Saint Thomas Aquinas in Rockland, NY.
While attending pharmacy school, he met his wife Marcia, also a pharmacist. They had three children: Adrian, Kimberly, and Vanessa. Mike worked as a pharmacist for New York City Health and Hospital for one year before moving onto Montefiore Medical Center where he worked for 32 years. During his time there, he developed long lasting friendships, and was loved by all.
Mike was a devoted Catholic. He loved cooking, music, traveling, and spending time with his family. He enjoyed attending pharmacy conferences and keeping up on the latest drug therapy research. His passion was cardiology.
Mike was a very selfless person. Always supportive, encouraging, and kind to both family and friends
Despite the incredible skill and care of the medical team of Montefiore Medical Center, he succumbed to his illness. Our beloved Mike died on April 1st, 2020, at the age of 66. We have no words to express our grief.
Sleep well my love, until we meet again…
