Obituary of Elsa M. Abraham
It is with broken hearts that the family of Elsa Marie Abraham announces her passing on April 20, 2020 at Hackensack University Medical Center. Her family was with her when she passed peacefully. She now joins her parents Felix and Julia Hernandez and her siblings Mercedes and Daniel in heaven.
Elsa was born on May 27, 1941 in Cuba and came to New York City at 18 years old. She, along with several of her siblings, personified the American dream and created a wonderful life of opportunity here for their children and grandchildren. Elsa is survived by husband Luis, daughter Nancy, and son David. Elsa was a longtime resident of Nanuet in Rockland County where she lived with her daughter, son-in-law Evan, and the two true lights of her life: grandsons Sean and Ryan Selinske. She will be missed here as a part of our daily lives where her greatest joy was taking care of family, whether it was cooking, babysitting, or an afternoon with niece Magda’s family.
Elsa is also survived by her large, loving extended family of siblings and in laws (Rina, Reinaldo, Daisy, Fernando, Isolina, Olga, Eddie, Maruchi, Marta, and Rolando) as well as her many nieces, nephews and cousins. We will all miss her warmth and the love she always shared, as well as the many evenings spent laughing, drinking wine and playing dominos.
A memorial celebration of Elsa's life will take place at Saint Michael’s Cemetery in Queens when this storm passes and it is safe to do so. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in her memory to either: Hackensack University Hospital COVID-19 Response Fund or JDRF Metro NJ Chapter.
Elsa touched everyone who knew her and will be missed by all.
