Obituary of Nora Kathleen McGrath
Nora Kathleen McGrath, 72, a longtime Pearl River resident and recently of Fort Myers, FL passed away Friday, September 11, 2020 at the Life Care Center of Estero after her courageous battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Born on January 24, 1948 in New York, NY, Nora was the daughter of the late Thomas and Honora (Sheehy) Bluight. She married Robert McGrath on May 17, 1969 at St. Pancras Church in Glendale, NY and he survives at home in Fort Myers, FL.
She is a graduate of Rockland Community College, where she worked diligently earning an Associate’s Degree at night, while working full time and raising her two daughters. Nora spent her career at IBM, working 25+ years, ultimately retiring in 2007.
Known for her never-ending smile and her infectiously positive spirit, she loved quilting, catching up with friends at Shop-Rite (supposedly food shopping), the beach and anything to do with her Irish heritage.
Nora was a devout Catholic and parishioner of The Resurrection of our Lord in Fort Myers, FL and St. Margaret’s Church in Pearl River, NY.
In addition to her loving husband of 51 years, Nora is survived by her daughters; Noreen and her husband, Peter Dever of New York, NY, and Nancy and her husband, Thomas Flynn of Pearl River, NY; her grandchildren, Grace & Peter Dever; her siblings, Thomas (Susan) Bluight of Levittown, NY, Patricia (John) Conneally, of Pine Bush, NY, and Mary Smyth of Queens, NY; in addition to many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Nora is predeceased by her sister, Helen Cumiskey and her brother, James Bluight.
Friends may call at the Sorce Assumma & Shankey Funeral Home, Pearl River, NY on Sunday, September 20th, 2020 from 2 to 5PM.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret’s, Pearl River, NY on Monday, September 21st, 2020 at 10:30AM. Burial will follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.
