Marie Olivia Abbatecola

February 19, 1922 - September 27, 2020

Marie Olivia Abbatecola of Orangeburg, NY passed away peacefully at the Joe Raso Hospice Residence in New City, NY on Sept. 27, 2020 surrounded by her loving family.  Marie was born in Brooklyn,  NY to Virgilio Arietta and Jessie Cicatelli Arietta on February 19, 1922.

She married Vincent J. Abbatecola on Sept. 24, 1944 and lived in Queens before moving to Rockland County in 1961.  She lived most of those years in Pearl River and then moved to Dowling Gardens, Sparkill, NY and most recently BrightView Senior Living, Lake Tappan, NY.

Marie enjoyed cooking, reading, music, the NY Yankees  but most of all she enjoyed spending time with  her family whom she dearly loved.   She worked at the Woolworth Co. when she was right out of high school.  Later in life she worked at the Pearl River High School as a lunch room cashier and then as a secretary at Abbey Ice & Spring Water beside her husband and son.

She is predeceased by her husband, Vincent J. Abbatecola and siblings Attilio,  Alphonse,  Florine Williamson, Jesse, and Benito.  

Marie is survived by her son, Vincent P. Abbatecola (Bernadette) and daughter Janet O’Toole (William), grandchildren Matthew O’Toole (Joanna), Annie Donovan (Patrick), Katie Economou (Andrew), Brian O’Toole (Lisa), Vincent Abbatecola, Michael Abbatecola and great grandchildren Erin Arietta O’Toole, Tara O’Toole, Ashley Economou and Kristina Economou, siblings Vivian Reiglehoff,  Bruno Arietta and Albina Miller and several loving nieces and nephews. She will be sorely missed by all.

In lieu of flowers the Abbatecola family would like to thank and request donations be made to either of the two organizations whose compassionate and skilled members provided extraordinary care and comfort to Marie.

Nyack Hospital, 160 N Midland Ave, Nyack, NY. 

Visitation at Sorce Funeral Home, 34 N. Summit Ave, Pearl River, NY will be held on Thursday, Oct 1st from 4-8.  Due to COVID 19 concerns, restrictions will be in effect for the funeral home. Masks and social distancing will be required.  The funeral Mass is  private.
