Obituary of Elizabeth B. Papierowicz

Elizabeth Papierowicz (née Keenan) was born in Gortletteragh, County Leitrim, Ireland. She immigrated to the United States in 1951 with her mother, Margaret , and joined her sister, Mary, in New York City. Their brother, Robert Conroy, who pre-deceased Elizabeth, joined them in New York several years later.

Elizabeth fell in love with her adopted city and would call New York home for the rest of her life.

A life-long learner, Elizabeth valued education and graduated with an accounting degree from Baruch College of The City University of New York. She worked for many years as an Accountant for the United States Department of the Treasury and loved her career.

In 1977, Elizabeth married her beloved husband, Robert, who sadly and suddenly passed away in 1981.

Elizabeth was a parishioner at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church on E. 47th Street in New York City. She belonged to The County Leitrim Society, The Yorkshire Club, The A & S Club, and The Club at Turtle Bay. Elizabeth loved dancing and spent many weekends dancing at her clubs and on her weekends getaways. She was a faithful member of the Y at Turtle Bay and enjoyed swimming and exercising several times week.

Elizabeth is survived by her loving sister, Mary Keenan Avanzino, her nephews John (Angelicque) Avanzino, James (Iris) Avanzino, her niece, Louisa Avanzino, great-nephews, John Avanzino, Jackson Avanzino, Jesse Avanzino, and great-niece, Corinne Avanzino.

The family would like to give a special thank you to Judy and Raymond Fallon for giving a loving home to Elizabeth’s beloved cats, Amber and Ronnie.
