Obituary of Theresa V. O'Brien

Theresa O’Brien of Pearl River passed away peacefully on June 8th, 2021 at home surrounded by her family.   She was 75 years old.

Theresa, affectionately known as Terry, was born in NYC on October 24th, 1945. She proudly grew up in the Inwood section of Manhattan.  Terry married the love of her life, John O’Brien, on June 8th,1968. They moved to Pearl River in 1971 where they raised their three children and shared  45 wonderful years together until John’s death in 2014.

Terry is survived by her three children Theresa O’Sullivan, Eileen (Don) McCarthy and John (Kim) O’Brien.  She is also survived by her beloved grand children Deirdre, Erin and Claire O’Sullivan, Kate, Sara and Brian McCarthy and Michaela, Kathryn and Brendan O’Brien.

Terry's warm and friendly spirit were known to all and she had “the gift to gab” to make new friends wherever she went.  She enjoyed telling and retelling old stories which only seemed to get funnier each time she told them. Terry’s greatest pleasure in life was to dote on her grandchildren.  She never missed an opportunity to be with them to babysit, watch a sporting event or pick up from school.  Many wonderful summers were spent at her  beach house with her children and grandchildren.  She enjoyed their visits to her and they will always remember her unconditional love for them.

Terry is survived by her sisters Maureen (Steve)Sullivan and Carol (Bob) McCracken as well as her brothers Tom Mitchell (Cathy) and Michael (Karen) Mitchell and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband John, she is predeceased by her brother Patrick Mitchell and his wife Margaret as well as sister in law Pat Lacey and her husband Bill.

Terry was a special person and was loved dearly by her family.  She will be forever missed.
